Marie-Chantal Kaninda is the Founder and Managing Director of MCK & L Consulting Limited (MCK&L). The firm advises and provides support companies and organisations investing and operating in Africa on with country entry, set up and exit strategies, and with building and managing their relationships with government, communities and other stakeholders. Marie-Chantal has 20 years’ experience in the mining industry in Africa working for and with international companies such as Rio Tinto, De Beers, AngloGold Ashanti and Ashanti Goldfields.
She has held senior administrative and management positions in Human Resources, External Affairs, Communications and Social Performance functions. Her geographic experience covers numerous countries in Africa including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Guinea, Cameroon, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, and Madagascar. She has successfully developed and implemented challenging community resettlement programmes and implemented several stakeholder engagement strategies and plans in several mining operations across the African continent. In addition, she has been responsible for setting up and managing African subsidiaries of international mining companies, including sitting on their Boards and, when required, successfully managed their exits from the country – always in compliance with countries’ standards and requirements and the highest international standards. Marie-Chantal is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Diamond Development Initiative (DDI). She also heads the Anti-Corruption Initiative for the private sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has over 25 companies as members. This organisation, with the Office of the Prime Minister, Civil Society and other public sector agencies, developed the National Anti-Corruption Pact for the DRC. In addition to being the Co-Vice President of the National Women’s Football Committee in the DRC, Marie-Chantal has set up the MCKM Foundation which focus on educating girls in the DRC. The Foundation has awards more than 100 scholarships a year to girls for secondary education. Marie-Chantal studied Economics at the University of Liege in Belgium, is married and the mother of two beautiful girls.
